Crafting is a fantastic way to relax and can be one of the cheapest hobbies.
Knitting is easy to begin learning and it is a great way to look after your mental health and wellbeing. However, some beginner knitters can give up early on due to common errors that can be easily remedied.
Here are three common knitting errors and how to fix them:
Issues with counting your rows
A row of knitting is when you have completed all the stitches on your knitting needle. Many knitters keep note of their rows through a notebook and pen. You can even get a special hand clicker called a stitch counter that you click every time you complete a row. It’s advisable to add a marker like a safety pin to mark your last counted row to avoid recounts.
Holes
Holes in a project can happen for a few reasons but the most common is an extra wrap of yarn over the needle. The way to remedy this is to unknit the yarn back to the beginning of the hole. It’s important to regularly check your stitching because if you discover this later on you may have to undo a lot of work.
Losing track
Unlike a textile craft such as macrame, losing track of where you get to with a knitting project can make it hard to jump back into it again. This may mean you end up with lots of unfinished projects. Counting rows and adding safety pins will help as well as keeping your knitting kit tidy.
Try something else!
Hobbies shouldn’t be a chore and there is a craft out there for everyone. Why not try a macrame kit? A macrame kit will contain macrame rope and an easy pattern for beginners. Macrame does tend to be easier to keep on top of with projects.
Whether you choose to persevere or try something new, just remember that no one gets it right the first time and all your hard work will be worth it!
