Getting Planning Permission for an Extension

If you want to make the most of your house and increase the space that you have in it, then an extension is the way to do it. As well as improving your home by adding space to it, you can also increase the value of it if you do want to sell it in the future. However, before you start doing any building work at all, you need to make sure that you have planning permission that allows you to do so. If you don’t, you could be ordered to take the structure down.

Not all changes to your home will need planning permission – in most cases, you won’t need to get planning permission for a conservatory for example, as this comes under permitted development. However, there are some exceptions to this, so you do still need to check before you go ahead with anything.

When you are planning to build an extension, there are lots of things to consider. How you want the extra space to be used, where the extension will go and how you can change the current layout to make the most of the space are all things that need to be considered.
